A Year in the Life of Living Out

I joined the Living Out team in March this year and having settled in quickly, we somehow seem to have arrived in December already. It’s been a joy to look back over the year and see all that has been achieved. I love hearing from people who have been helped by Living Out. This week someone from New Zealand emailed in:

‘Just wanted to send you an email as an encouragement for what you are all doing. You are all epic and amazing. I am so thankful for your heart and faithfulness to the gospel that has helped me navigate some powerful topics with such grace and love. I have shared your resources with a ton of people. As a church leader, your podcast series and blog and reading material have been a phenomenal gift. Please keep up the great work.’

So, here’s a whistle-stop tour of most of what we got up to in 2024.

The big launch

The highlight of 2024 has to be the completion of Kaleidoscope, our new series for youth groups. It was a huge undertaking that involved brand development, market research, script writing, special guest recruitment, filming, editing, bonus material writing, and website building. Sounds like a lot of work – it was! I had the pleasure of being on set for most of the recordings, there was a lot of hard work by those behind the camera as well as those in front. But we are thrilled that in the first month, over 600 people accessed the series.

Through the airwaves

We have just completed series 10 of the Living Out podcast, and our 100th episode is just around the corner. Series 10 – ‘Different Stories’ – introduced us to a range of guests, most of whom are new to the Living Out audience.

In episode 5, Paul shared how he’d grown up receiving helpful teaching in his church. He was taught that ‘We all have all sorts of desires, and we all have to learn how to control our desires, sexual and otherwise, in healthy ways.’ This helped Paul feel less isolated and reminded him that he was not the only one who struggled with issues of temptation. What a great reminder to us all that the biblical principle of denying ourselves in order to follow Christ is one that applies to all Christians.

So far in 2024, our podcast has been downloaded over 32,000 times.

On the web

Almost 300,000 people visited the Living Out website in 2024. We average around 4,000 visitors a week, but around the launch of Kaleidoscope that jumped up to 9,000 a week.

We have published 52 blogs this year and a bunch of reviews and articles. Our most popular resource continues to be ‘What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality?’, which has been viewed 134,000 times in the last 12 months.

On the road

We have spoken at over 60 events this year. We preached on Sunday mornings, spoke at mid-week and weekend events, and addressed big crowds at conferences and smaller groups at local churches. Our largest audience was for Ashleigh, speaking at the youth festival Newday, where she was heard by almost over 1000 people.

The Living Out team member who has travelled around the country the most has to be Andy, our training director. Andy loves a good train ride, but he also got on a few planes this year, one to Austria in October and one to Latvia in April. Andrew accompanied Andy to Latvia where together they led six sessions on sexuality, gender, and faith.

Throughout the year, as every year, we have sought to provide good, biblical teaching and quality resources. Thank you to all of you who got in touch to express your gratitude for those resources.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue serving the church and wider society in 2025. If you would like to support the work of Living Out, we would love to have you standing with us, praying and giving financially. Click here for more details.
