Heartache is real, and heartache hurts. But as real as heartache is, so is beauty.
Beauty is not stronger than pain, or greater than regret. It will not save you from sorrow. But neither is beauty weaker than pain, regret or sorrow.
Beauty has a purpose and beauty has a voice.
Beauty has a purpose and beauty has a voice. ‘The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands’ (Psalm 19:1). As we admire daffodils dancing in the wind, or the rain falling off the church roof like a purpose-made water feature; when we hear a song that takes us to another world, or a piece of art that stays with us long after we’ve stopped looking at it; when we see a smile that lights up a room, or a sunrise that insists it must be gazed at; in all these moments, and a thousand others, beauty is speaking to us. It says, ‘Look up child. Look beyond the moment you exist in. Look to the hand that made all you see. Look to the one who is, and was, and is to come.’
I don’t know how you come to this blog post. Maybe your heart is hurting right now, or maybe the memory of its ache still lingers on. However you come to this post, I hope that you will stop and smell the roses, admire the view, and soak in the wonder that is creation. I hope that you will let beauty lead you to the one who is beautiful. There my hoping ends because there I know you will find the help you need.
