For over a year, the Emerging Generations team here at Living Out have been beavering away on a top-secret project. There has been planning, discussing, consulting, designing, scripting, styling, lighting, filming and editing, and now we are ready to introduce…

Kaleidoscope is our series for youth groups, available for free here on our website.

The series is all about giving young people the space to explore big questions about sexuality, gender and faith.

Giving young people the space to explore big questions about sexuality, gender and faith.

For so many young people today, these are very real and personal questions. For some it’s because of their own experiences of sexuality or gender, or the experiences of friends and family members. For others it’s because of an awareness of how sexual and gender minorities have been mistreated and excluded in both society and the Church. And in our churches, it’s often because young people are struggling to know how best to love their gay and trans-identifying friends.

For many young people today, it is the topics of sexuality and gender that either stop them considering the Christian faith or drive them away from it. If we as the Church want to connect with young people today, want to introduce them to Jesus and show them he has good news for them and their friends, we have to make space for them to work through their questions about sexuality and gender. That’s what Kaleidoscope is all about.

The series has six video-based episodes, each featuring real-life stories, engaging teaching and a panel discussion. Conversation is a big part of Kaleidoscope, so in each episode there are multiple places to pause the video and get a discussion going within the youth group.

Alongside the main episodes, we provide everything a church needs to make the most of the series. There’s training for youth leaders, church leaders and parents, as well as episode guides to assist the leaders running the series. Take-home sheets for both youth and parents are designed to help keep the conversation going throughout the week and back home. In addition, we’ve got some bonus material: groundwork sessions – written plans for pre-series sessions unpacking key elements of a Christian worldview – and deep dive study guides exploring in greater depth topics like friendship, pornography, dating and the Bible on same-sex sexual activity.

We’re really excited about Kaleidoscope and are praying that it will be a blessing to many churches and young people. We’d love it if you would join us in praying for the series and spreading the word.
